NC HOPE is bringing together 150+ champions of the mental health field to help celebrate Peer Support Specialists and other mental health professionals. Our dream is to create an event that will show support, empathy, and empowerment to those who are on the front lines in the mission to support persons living with mental health and substance use disorders. We are inviting: Peer Support Specialist, Mental Health professionals, Elected Officials, Advocates for Mental Health, and others.
Peer Support is an evidenced-based mental health model of care which consists of a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) who assists individuals with their recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders. Combined with skills learned from peer support certification training, life experiences, and institutional knowledge, peer support specialists are in a unique position to offer support. The role of a CPSS is to model recovery, teach skills, provide hope and offer supports to help people reduce the likelihood of relapse and lead meaningful lives in the community. CPSS are often overlooked and undervalued as members of the treatment community, they are unsung heroes. NC HOPE wants to recognize and celebrate them for their role in supporting the most vulnerable among us.
